Heading for the East
FRIDAY 25 MAY
We start with the old, switch to the contemporary, then take in two styles of the traditional. St Dunstans-in-the-East is a little known CITY treasure where roses twine up the ancient walls. From there we head for one of London’s most fascinating modern gardens – the Thames Barrier garden built in the slipway of an old wharf at SILVERTOWN. Then we drop in to take a look at the gardens of the new, and vast, Olympic site and take lunch at a restaurant with a fantastic view before heading to LEYTON for Paul Minter’s charming four-roomed formal garden behind a double-fronted 1860 villa, and then to FOREST GATE to see Janet Daniels where to say her garden is packed with plants is understating it. And actually it is not just one garden but six! Too complex to describe. It’s got to be seen.
PRICE: £85 including lunch
START & FINISH: Tower Hill Tube Station
TIME: 9am
