Richard and Diana Treganowan’s CHISWICK garden is full of the unusual. From stumperies to scheffleras; fine ferns to fantastical foliage this garden has it all. Down in the jungle in deepest WANDSWORTH is the exuberant garden of Victoria Summerley, which by high summer, is a mass of bananas cannas giving a real feel of the exotic. ‘I wanted the garden to feel as if you stepped out of an ordinary life’ and so it does, with a giant cloud topiarised Montezuma pine, that amazingly started life as a bonsai! Not so much a garden more a cornucopia of treasured plants brought back from far afield and nurtured by Charles Rutherfoord and Rupert Tyler. Echiums, tibouchinas, hibiscus and daturas thrive and intermingle with dahlias, Japanese anemones in this wonderfully eclectic CLAPHAM garden.
